Big Jim Furniss (1939-2007) was born in a small steel town North of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and had a love for music from the get-go. Jim was very much involved in music and sports while in school, however both ended up simply being hobbies. He married Betty Gay after they both graduated from Penn State and together they had enjoyed 43 years of marriage at the time of his passing. Their son Steve was Jim's business partner in their software company, TranWare, Inc. He lives with his wife Robin on Clearwater Beach, FL and continues to operate the company in the positive spirit that Jim would have wanted.
Betty was a great artist in their early years of marriage until she became a Mary Kay Sales Director in October 1984. During her art phase, Big Jim always told Betty that he wanted to get some brushes and paint and do his own thing. The desire to create his own artwork never came to fruition until his son suggested that he utilize a computer instead of regular paint, brushes and canvas.
Since 2002, Big Jim had been creating hundreds of works under a vast variety of topics. His mobile portfolio was always with him and up until this point, it was his only means of taking orders for his work. The works had become more popular and now they are offered through this web site. Even Willie Nelson and Willie's Stage Manager, "Poodie" Locke have requisitioned some of his works. Big Jim worked full time in his software company and played Bluegrass music twice a week. This is why most of his art was created early in the morning or sometimes even in the middle of the night. Thanks, Enjoy!
